A town best known for its impressive castle, famously referred to as Dracula’s Castle.
Bran Castle is one of the most recognizable castles in the world and is often called “Dracula’s Castle.” Although there is no definitive evidence that the vampire Dracula—based on the historical figure Vlad III—ever lived in the castle, the site has become a symbol of vampire legends and stories.
The castle is over 600 years old and has served various roles in Romania’s history, including defending the country’s borders against Turkish invasions. It is built on a hill and surrounded by stunning mountain scenery, making it an attractive destination for tourists.
Today, the castle functions as a museum showcasing exhibits related to the history of the region, along with some elements connected to the legend of Dracula. The interiors have been restored to reflect their former appearance and atmosphere.
Bran is located in the heart of the Romanian Carpathians, in a region of picturesque mountain landscapes. It is a popular spot for hiking enthusiasts and nature lovers.
Castle ā Castelul Bran
Known as Dracula’s Castle, it is in fact only loosely connected to the Wallachian voivode who became the protagonist of Bram Stoker’s novels.
The fortress was built in 1377 by the Saxons on the site of an old Teutonic stronghold destroyed by the Mongols, and it stands on the Transylvanian side of the historic border with Wallachia.
After 1918, when Transylvania became part of Greater Romania, the castle became a favorite residence of Queen Marie, who restored and remodeled it for the use of the royal family.
