The castle was built in the 13th century by Ruthenian princes and expanded by successive owners.

Kamianets-Podilskyi Castle is considered one of the most beautiful and largest castles in Eastern Europe. It was repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt over the centuries, until the late 18th century, when it was captured by the Russians. During the Polish–Ottoman wars in the 17th century, the castle was frequently attacked by Turkish forces but managed to survive.

The castle is situated on a hill and is surrounded by defensive walls, towers, and bastions. Within the castle complex, there are many notable structures, including watchtowers, the royal palace, a chapel, observation towers, and historic artifacts related to the castle’s and region’s history.
