One of the most interesting and important monuments of Lower Silesia and one of the most significant Protestant landmarks in Europe.
Built between 1656 and 1657 during the Swedish Wars, as an expression of gratitude for the end of hostilities and the proclamation of peace at the conclusion of the Thirty Years’ War.
This church was constructed in an elliptical shape, and its interior is decorated with numerous paintings, sculptures, and ornaments. One interesting feature is the so-called “peace counter” on one of the walls—a small storage space where church documents and treasures were kept during times of war.
The Church of Peace in Świdnica has undergone multiple renovations and restorations, including after a fire in 1750 and damage sustained during World War II. In 2001, it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as part of the group of Peace Churches in Jawor and Świdnica.
Today, the Church of Peace in Świdnica remains active as a place of worship and is also a popular tourist attraction drawing visitors from around the world.
