The church at the summit of Mount Ślęża
The Church of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built on the ruins of a medieval stone castle. Today, fragments of the walls can be admired when visiting the church’s underground chambers.
The earliest records of the church date back to the 12th century. Palatine Piotr Włostowic brought Augustinian monks from the Flemish monastery in Arrovaise, located in the County of Artois, to Mount Ślęża, granting them the mountain and funding the construction of the church and monastery.
