A town located in the Western Sudetes, in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, near the border with the Czech Republic.
Karpacz is a popular tourist resort, especially among enthusiasts of mountain hiking and skiing. Numerous hiking trails begin near the town, including routes leading to Śnieżka – the highest peak of the Karkonosze Mountains.
Karpacz also offers many tourist attractions, such as the Museum of Sports and Tourism, Western City – a Wild West–themed amusement park, and the "Tropicana" water complex.
The Wang Church in Karpacz
This unique example of wooden architecture was originally built in Norway in the mid-13th century.
By the 19th century, the church had fallen into ruin, but in the 1920s it was purchased by a German businessman, Karl Richter, who had it restored and transported to Karpacz, where it was rebuilt in 1842.
The Wang Church is one of the most important landmarks in Karpacz and attracts numerous visitors due to its distinctive architecture and richly decorated interior. Among its features are beautiful wall and ceiling paintings, as well as valuable historic sculptures and altars.
In 1992, the Wang Church was inscribed on the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage List as one of the most valuable examples of wooden sacred architecture in Europe.
